The Swedish melancholy has served as inspiration for the 2010 spring/summer collection. This
melancholy in relation to clothes is found in the fantastic pictures of Swedish photographer Sune
Jonsson. During the 50s and 60s he portrayed the rural life of people in the Swedish province of
Västerbotten. The result was a book called “And time becomes a wondrous thing”.
The people in Jonsson’s pictures are workers. People who didn’t even know the meaning of the
word fashion. Each and every garment was an investment and they would all be used for as long
as possible. The clothes that you wear get a whole new meaning if you don’t replace your entire
wardrobe every six month. Garments become a part of who you are, a part of your character and
of your life.
The people in Sune Jonsson’s photos wore all their clothes in the same way that people of today
wear and tear a pair of jeans; love them and take care of them and do anything they can to make
them last for as long as possible. This is a way of relating to clothes to be inspired by. Not because
you miss the times long gone, but because you wish for something else than disposable
fashion and mass consumption. It’s a vision of the devotion to and love for clothes.
In the collection you find the clothes of the farmhand. The simple shirt without a collar, the long
sleeve vest, the hat and the monogrammed handkerchief. The only jacket and waistcoat that he
owned and that he would wear on special occasions, like Sunday church or maybe a revival meeting.
New for this season are the many Japanese cotton fabrics that are used for several of the
shirts. The number of garments made in organic cotton is growing again this season. Except for
jeans, shirts, tees and underwear, this spring also offers a jacket in organic denim.
