Despite having web known origins, vintage is considered to be something left over from a specific era. The young are increasingly looking for an appreciating single to represent personal experiences and emotions. As a result, vintage now includes a variety of products such as motorbikes, cars, music, objects, pubs and computers. We have applied the same romantic perspective to clothing, the most effective means of self expression. Wine is a living product which changes and improves with time. The same goes for vintage, a term which not surprisingly originates from the French “ I’age du vin” – the age of the wine: and that’s just it, we are trying to create a product that can exist and mature over the years.

For Andrea and Guisseppe, this is the heart and soul of their Franklin & Marshall; firstly to observe and to transmit the real essence of vintage. Not a trend, but the best way of expressind oneself by personalising tastes.

Verona based Franklin vintage dates back to 1999, although it’s cultural roots can be traced to the America of previous decades: to the years of post war consumerism somewhere between the beat generation and Vietnam, between the civil rights movement and Pop Art, between Kennedy an “68. These were above all the “golden years” for the young Americans who, at college, had the opportunity to discover the human potential that could change their country. Political ambitions, culture, music and sport were characterised by original designs; that of big rounded cars, the Coca cola red fridge, colourful juke boxes, imaginatively decorated pinball machines and the youth second skin; t-shirts, checked shirts, baseball caps and sports bags.

Franklin & Marshall originated from the wish to preserve symbols of the past, reviving them with the same discernment but with different eyes. As Giuseppe and Andrea explain, -“Vintage is a luxury whose worth originates from the fact that it resists being swept away by fashion tidal wave” It is for this reason that every garment acquires individual value, it is adopted by young people and combined with personal life experiences. It remains at least for a generation. Franklin & Marshall, through reaserch, enthusiasm and great attention to raw materials have created a totally Italian product, a strong contrast between the melancholy past and the modern present day. Today the brand is exported to about 20 countries.
